PART 9 – DUTIES OF OFFICERS

Chairperson

      47  The chairperson shall:

                     (a)     preside over meetings of the Congregation, the board of deacons and the

                              executive;

                     (b)     call meetings of the board of deacons and the executive;

                     (c)     seek to co-ordinate the programs and affairs of the Congregation; and

                     (d)     subject to the ratification of the board of deacons, be responsible for

                              arranging the remuneration and other benefits where applicable for the

                              members of the pastoral staff and other employees of the Congregation.

 

Vice chairperson

      48  The vice chairperson shall:

                     (a)     assist the chairperson with his or her duties;

                     (b)     act on behalf of the chairperson in his or her absence; and

                     (c)     develop and maintain a working knowledge of how the Congregation is

                              governed by the Act and these bylaws.

 

Secretary

      49  The secretary shall:

                     (a)     record the minutes of the meetings of Congregation, the board of deacons

                              and the executive; and

                     (b)     ensure that the minutes and other relevant records are properly filed.

 

Treasurer

      50  The treasurer shall:

                     (a)     receive and distribute the funds of the Congregation;

                     (b)     be responsible for the maintenance of a complete record of all financial

                              transactions;

                     (c)     report to the board of deacons and to the Congregation with respect to the

                              financial transactions when called upon; and

                     (d)     present to the board of deacons and to the Congregation any concerns about

                              the Congregation’s finances.

Deacons

      51  (1)     The duties of each deacon shall be specified by the board of deacons.       

            (2)     In general, the deacons shall:
                     (a)     be Members;
                     (b)     consult with the board of deacons and any member of the pastoral staff as
                              desired with respect to the programs that they direct;
                     (c)     report to the board of deacons and to the Congregation on their activities; and
                     (d)     recommend to the board of deacons the appointment of such committees and
                              other church workers as are required to carry out the programs assigned to
                              them.
